Town Sergeant
We currently have a unique opportunity for permanent full-time post as Town Sergeant to join the Facilities Management team. As a uniformed officer you will be part of a city tradition dating back over 800 years providing a unique, varied and diverse role that is never routine.
Applicants will work a rolling 39-hour week shift pattern maintaining cover at Southampton City Council’s iconic and Grade 2* listed Civic Centre, located at the heart of the city. Applicants within their role will provide a 24/7 emergency call out service on a rota basis, which will incur an additional uplift allowance.
As member of the Town Sergeant team, you’ll be key in helping to provide a safe, secure and friendly environment for council members and officers to work in and others to visit.
About The Role
As a Town Sergeant you will closely interact with all visitors, staff and councillors across a wide variety of roles and tasks. The Town Sergeant role also includes chauffeuring of the Lord Mayor of Southampton to events and engagements both in and out of hours on a duty rota. It is therefore essential a full driver’s licence is held.
About You
You will be trained as a First Aider and a Fire Marshal with other key skills of the role including supporting staff with clients.

Salary: The salary band for this role is £28,792 - £31,022. The starting salary is £28,792 with annual progression through the salary bands.
