Role Overview

Our Real Estate Digital team has a vacancy for a SMART Building Consultant to work with clients in the fast-growing SMART building area. You will develop and implement organisational strategies and advanced disruptive technologies into the built environment.

Role and Responsibilities

As a SMART Building Consultant, you will advise clients on advanced technologies that transform the built environment, integrating future-proof solutions such as IoT sensors, SMART building systems integration, and IT connectivity to enhance efficiency and functionality. You will help clients navigate complex technology challenges by developing innovative, scalable, and cost-effective solutions aligned with their needs. You will work closely with design and construction teams, technology vendors and stakeholders to ensure SMART building initiatives are integrated from design through construction to implementation, focusing on optimising real estate building and portfolio performance, environmental and sustainability performance, and improving end-user experience, comfort and well-being. You will partner with clients to achieve SMART building strategies while driving integration of SMART building technologies and systems such as SMART building strategies, digital twin strategies, fibre & copper structured cabling, intelligent building systems (BMS, security, etc.), wireless networking, audio video and collaboration technologies, IoT and 5G, end user technologies, data centres and comms room development.

You will be at multiple experience levels aligned to responsibilities including consulting, senior consulting and principal consulting roles.

Key Responsibilities
  • Consultation & Strategy Development: Collaborate with clients to develop SMART building strategies and technology roadmaps. Advise on best-fit, innovative solutions to address business challenges and realise the client’s vision.
  • Business Case Development: Develop comprehensive business cases to support technology investments and align them with organisational goals.
  • Persona Development and Mapping: Create and map user personas to optimise technology solutions for different user groups and enhance user experience.
  • Technology Integration: Guide design, specification, and integration of technology services; leverage structured cabling, wireless networking, intelligent building systems (BMS, security, etc.), IoT, 5G, AV, and SMART building solutions to meet client requirements.
  • Project Delivery: Oversee technology delivery in line with construction programs and client KPIs; manage IT service delivery to meet time, budget and quality targets.
  • Stakeholder Management: Act as primary interface between clients, construction teams and consultants; maintain strong relationships and clear communication.
  • Governance & Reporting: Establish governance structures and provide regular progress updates to stakeholders.
  • Commercial Insight: Identify pain points and support informed technology decisions.
  • Change Management: Manage IT change control processes with proper documentation and execution.
  • New Business Development: Identify and qualify new opportunities addressing clients' technology consultancy needs.
Key Accountabilities
  • Vision & Strategy: Support clients in developing and implementing SMART building strategies.
  • Stakeholder Management: Lead client and consultant engagement throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Technical Insights: Provide expert advice on SMART building technologies, IoT, and digital solutions.
  • Project Success: Define success criteria and ensure projects meet time, cost, and performance goals.
  • Governance & Compliance: Establish governance structures ensuring quality, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Project Planning & Delivery: Create detailed project plans and lead cross-functional teams.
  • IT Change Control & Reporting: Manage change control processes and provide regular progress reports.
  • Financial Oversight: Monitor project budgets for cost-effective delivery.
  • IT Procurement & Installations: Oversee IT procurement and coordinate technology installations such as AV, cabling, and building systems.
Qualifications
  • APM/Agile/Prince2 Project Management qualification or similar
  • Evidence of SMART learning through formal courses, industry initiatives or similar
Skills and Experience
  • Experience with client engagement and stakeholder management
  • Ability to engage stakeholders and build relationships
  • Experience delivering integrated technology solutions as a project manager
  • Ability to master technical concepts and communicate them to diverse audiences
  • Resourceful problem-solver; able to leverage internal and partner resources
  • Self-motivated with strong technical knowledge
  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation communication skills
Nice to Have
  • Experience writing bid responses and presenting ideas in interviews
  • Knowledge and experience of working within the commercial property sector
  • Knowledge of RIBA plan of work
  • Ability to lead meetings and manage expectations
