[Remote] Scientific Grant Writer (12-Month Fixed-Term, 50% FTE)

Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Stanford University is seeking a Scientific Grant Writer to support the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and the Amanatullah laboratory. The role develops, edits, and submits scientific manuscripts and grant proposals, manages reusable grant materials, and operates the Stanford Research Management Group interface while coordinating with academic and medical stakeholders.


Responsibilities

  • Develop and research ideas for written publication/communication on topics of moderate complexity
  • Consult with internal and external customers to understand the need and purpose of a project
  • Compose written material for diverse audiences, across a variety of channels
  • Manage production of own publications/communications and adhere to deadlines
  • Compose written material
  • Manage production of own stories, and adhere to deadlines
  • Develop, compile and edit supplemental materials that support written communication (i.e., backgrounders, biographies, executive talking points, and other related materials)
  • Establish and maintain extensive contacts with key sources (media, news services, community organizations and other targeted audiences) to identify story themes and newsworthy events to promote and disseminate information
  • Maintain department style standards

  • * Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks
  • * Frequently stand/walk, sit, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, and use a telephone, writing by hand

  • Bachelor's degree and five years of related experience, or a combination of education and relevant experience

  • * Ability to understand materials of moderate complexity and synthesize across multiple sources to produce materials for diverse audiences
  • * Ability to change voice and writing style to fit a particular audience and purpose
  • * Firm understanding of web technologies and applications, including social networking, social media tools, and current communication trends
  • * Excellent interpersonal skills and able to interact effectively with a diverse array of people, including senior leaders
  • * Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • * Ability to manage and prioritize multiple deadlines
  • * Excellent time management skills
  • * Doctoral degree (PhD, MD, MD-PhD, or equivalent) in immunology, microbiology, infectious disease, biomedical engineering, or related biomedical science. Bachelor's or Master's degree with substantial grant-writing experience may be considered for the right candidate
  • * Demonstrated track record of authorship on or successful preparation of NIH R01-level grant applications, with at least one funded mechanism in the candidate's portfolio history (as PI, Co-I, or named scientific writer)
  • * Experience with NIH R21, U01, P01/PPG, K-series career awards, and training grants (T32, F31, F32) in addition to R01
  • * Experience with developing, editing, reviewing, and applying for grants and sponsored research
  • * Excellent writing, interpersonal, and oral communication skills with proven ability to present, write, edit, and organize thoughts in a clear, concise, and well-organized manner
  • * Demonstrates the ability to work well with Stanford colleagues and clients and with external organizations
