About ProDerm

ProDerm is a growing private dermatology clinic providing specialist care across several UK locations. We are exploring the creation of our own private distance-selling pharmacy, specialising initially in commonly prescribed dermatology medicines.

We are looking for an experienced, commercially aware pharmacist to help us design and establish the service safely, compliantly and cost-effectively.

The opportunity The successful candidate would initially join us in a paid consulting capacity, helping the directors understand and manage the process of establishing a new GPhC-registered pharmacy.

Subject to the feasibility work and successful registration, there would be an opportunity to become ProDerm’s part-time Superintendent Pharmacist and to act as Responsible Pharmacist when on duty, helping to launch and manage the pharmacy on an ongoing basis.

This is an opportunity to shape a new pharmacy service from the beginning, rather than inherit an established operating model.

Initial responsibilities

· Assess the feasibility of establishing a private distance-selling pharmacy.

· Advise on the GPhC premises registration process and supporting evidence.

· Help identify the requirements for suitable offsite pharmacy premises.

· Design a practical implementation plan, budget and regulatory timeline.

· Advise on the responsibilities of the pharmacy owner, Superintendent Pharmacist and Responsible Pharmacist.

· Help develop the pharmacy’s governance framework, risk assessments and SOPs.

· Advise on pharmacy systems, dispensing equipment, labelling and electronic prescription workflows.

· Support the selection and due diligence of authorised UK pharmaceutical wholesalers.

· Advise on supplier contracts, credit terms, minimum order values and stock purchasing arrangements.

· Help model acquisition costs, patient prices, dispensing margins and break-even volumes.

· Design stock-control, expiry, recall, returns, delivery and business-continuity processes.

· Advise on the safe dispensing and delivery of specialist dermatology medicines, including isotretinoin.

· Help recruit or identify appropriate locum and operational support.

Potential ongoing responsibilities

· Act as Superintendent Pharmacist and provide professional leadership for the pharmacy.

· Act as Responsible Pharmacist when working at the registered premises, where appropriate.

· Oversee safe and compliant pharmacy operations.

· Maintain GPhC standards, SOPs, risk assessments and inspection readiness.

· Manage wholesaler relationships, purchasing, stock and pricing.

· Monitor dispensing margins, service performance and patient feedback.

· Work closely with ProDerm’s dermatologists and management team.

· Support the pharmacy’s controlled launch and future growth.

Essential requirements

· Current registration as a pharmacist with the GPhC.

· Significant experience in community, private or distance-selling pharmacy.

· Good knowledge of GPhC standards and pharmacy premises registration.

· Experience of pharmacy governance, SOPs, procurement and stock control.

· Strong understanding of the Superintendent Pharmacist and Responsible Pharmacist roles.

· Commercial awareness, including medicine acquisition costs, patient pricing and dispensing margins.

· Ability to translate regulatory requirements into a practical and proportionate operating model.

· Strong communication skills and the confidence to advise company directors.

Highly desirable

· Previous involvement in registering or launching a new pharmacy.

· Current or previous Superintendent Pharmacist experience.

· Experience establishing or operating a distance-selling or online pharmacy.

· Experience negotiating with pharmaceutical wholesalers.

· Knowledge of private prescriptions and dermatology medicines.

· Experience with isotretinoin dispensing requirements and associated risk-minimisation measures.

· Experience preparing a pharmacy for GPhC inspection.

Hours and engagement The initial consultancy is expected to require approximately 4–8 hours per week for an initial feasibility and planning period.

If the project proceeds, we anticipate an ongoing part-time position of approximately one day per week. The actual working pattern and amount of pharmacist coverage will be agreed following the feasibility assessment.
