Java React Developer for ShipStation Integration

We are looking for an experienced developer to integrate ShipStation into BidZoo, our custom-built online auction marketplace.

Our platform is a custom React application with a Java backend, and shipping is tied directly into our order, payment, tracking and delivery workflows. We need someone who has previously completed ShipStation integrations and understands how ShipStation should be implemented across the full shipping lifecycle — not simply someone who can connect to the API.

The developer will work with our existing SVP, Product and Engineering team to help determine the best integration approach, implement the ShipStation API, and ensure shipping data flows reliably between BidZoo and ShipStation.

The integration may include:

* Creating and purchasing shipping labels through ShipStation

* Sending order and shipment information between BidZoo and ShipStation

* Retrieving tracking numbers and automatically attaching them to the correct BidZoo order

* Tracking shipment and delivery status

* Handling multiple orders and shipments from the same seller

* Supporting different carriers and shipping services

* Handling shipment exceptions, cancellations, refunds or label voids

* Understanding how combined shipping/multiple-item shipments should be handled

* Helping define appropriate workflows for tracked and potentially untracked shipping methods

* Ensuring shipping events/statuses correctly trigger the appropriate actions within our existing marketplace

* Error handling, retries and reliable API communication

* Testing the complete shipping workflow before release

We already have an established development team and existing tracking functionality with 17 TRACKS, so you will be working within an existing platform rather than building a shipping system from scratch.

Required Experience

* Previous hands-on ShipStation API integration experience is required

* Strong experience with REST APIs, webhooks and third-party integrations

* Experience integrating shipping/fulfillment functionality into ecommerce or marketplace platforms

* Strong understanding of shipping workflows, labels, carriers, tracking and delivery statuses

* Hands-on experience with React and Java

* Ability to review an existing system and recommend the appropriate ShipStation architecture rather than simply implementing requirements without considering the overall shipping workflow

* Strong troubleshooting and testing skills

* Comfortable collaborating with an existing engineering team

When applying, please include:

1. Examples of ShipStation integrations you have personally implemented.

2. What functionality you integrated (labels, rates, tracking, webhooks, order sync, combined shipments, etc.).

3. Whether the integration was for an ecommerce site, marketplace or another type of platform.

4. Please describe your hands-on experience developing with React and Java, including any third-party API integrations you personally implemented.

5. Any potential challenges you would look for when integrating ShipStation into a multi-seller marketplace.

We would like to structure this engagement in two phases. The first milestone will be a paid technical review and scoping phase, where you will review our existing shipping workflow, architecture and requirements. At the end of this phase, we expect a recommended implementation approach, estimated development hours, project scope and implementation plan.

Once the technical review is complete and the scope is agreed upon, we would like to move forward with the full ShipStation integration as a fixed-price project.

**Please do not email me directly on my work or other emails. I will disregard those emails and revoke your application. I only want to communicate on upwork.
